  • NEW Tribal Training! – Pierce Conservation District & Puyallup Tribe
    • Mark your calendars for the final installment of PCD’s tribal training series on October 17th at 10-11:30am. This has been a great opportunity to learn some critical information that I am hopeful we will all build on in our future endeavors.  As we are wrapping up this great series, PCD is excited to get to hear from the panel about some of the questions that might have come up for each of us during this process.
      • PCD would love to have you provide some questions for the panelists by the end of this week 10/07/2022 through their Zoho form. This timeline will provide some prep time to the speakers for the 17th panel.

  • Workshop on Water Quality and Biological Integrity Tools – Puget Sound Institute is hosting a series of workshops on tools to understand Water Quality and Biological Integrity.
    • Biological Integrity of Key Species and Habitats – Presentations by the Baltic Nest Institute will describe how researchers in the Baltic Sea are tackling eutrophication. And a presentation by researchers at the University of Washington will explore regional research to quantify the eutrophication risk to key species and habitats in a multi-stressor environment. Building on these insights, workshop participants will have an opportunity to refine the modeling tools that help us protect key species and habitats in the Salish Sea. October 6th from 8-10:30am.   • Salmon Recovery Conference Call for Abstracts – The opportunity to submit abstracts for the 2023 Salmon Recovery Conference on April 18-19 is now open, deadline to submit abstracts is October 5, 2022. For more info and how to submit, please click HERE.
  • Pierce County seeks public input on Comprehensive Plan update – Pierce County is updating the Comprehensive Plan and would like the public’s input on future growth in the county. The public can engage in this important conversation through the project website HERE. The website hosts a survey, a calendar of in-person events, the ability to submit environmental review comments, and other information about the update. The public will have many opportunities during this multi-year project to provide input.
  • Puyallup Watershed Symposium Call for Abstracts – The Puyallup River Watershed Council is excited to announce that we will be hosting the annual Puyallup Watershed Symposium on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 1pm-5pm. The Puyallup Watershed Symposium is a free event where you can learn about or share information about research, environmental justice, and other work occurring in the Puyallup River watershed (WRIA 10).  This event will take place at the WSU Puyallup Allmendinger Center, and it will also be livestreamed on Zoom. PRWC invites those doing work in the Puyallup River watershed to submit an abstract for an oral presentation (15-20 min) or poster that targets one or more of the focus areas in the Puyallup-White River Ecosystem Recovery Plan. Please submit your abstract online at HERE by October 31, 2022.
  • South Sound Science Symposium (S4) & Call for Abstracts – Registration is open for the October 20, 2022 South Sound Science Symposium at the Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton. Topics will include many interesting topics including regenerative agriculture and carbon markets, effects of the 2014-2016 (The Blob) heat wave on deep South Sound, human health and ecological risk assessment of infiltrated reclaimed water, experimental 6PPPD- Quinone removal at Ohop Creek and much MORE! Funding Opportunities

  • Deadline Extended! NOAA: Coastal Habitat Restoration and Resilience Grants for Underserved Communities – $10 million in funding is available for habitat restoration and resilience awards for underserved communities though NOAA’s FY2022 Coastal Habitat Restoration and Resilience Grants for Underserved Communities Notice of Funding Opportunity. Through this funding, NOAA will engage underserved communities in habitat restoration activities that promote resilient ecosystems and communities. It will provide capacity for these communities to more fully participate in developing future transformational habitat projects.   • NOAA: Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant Competition – The Saltonstall-Kennedy Program administers a yearly grant competition which annually funds approximately 40 projects for $10 million that lead to the promotion, development and marketing of U.S. fisheries. NOAA Fisheries seeks applications that demonstrate direct benefits to the U.S. fishing and marine aquaculture industries and applications which involve:
    • Fishing or aquaculture community participation aimed at helping seafood communities to resolve issues that affect their ability to fish or farm
    • Making full use of those species that are currently under federal or state fishery management plans
    • Addressing the socioeconomic impacts of overfishing and overcapacity

  • Puyallup River Watershed Council – Bookkeeper

The PRWC board is seeking accountant and book keeping services for the following scope of work:

  • Conduct PRWC invoicing, payment and receipt of grant funds
  • File Annual Federal Income Tax returns
  • Accountant will provide quarterly reports to the PRWC Board, to include but not limited to quarterly Profit and Loss, Trail Balance Sheet, account balances, accounts payable and receivable.

    • Negotiate Statements of Work and Budgets with subrecipients to support strong outcomes from subawards linked to Implementation Strategy goals.

  • Department of Commerce – NEP Senior Planner

This Senior Planner position works with governmental and private sector partners to administer the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency National Estuary Program (NEP) work under the Puget Sound Partnership inter-agency contractual agreements with several State Agencies. This includes project work with Strategic Initiative Teams, local governments and stakeholders to manage growth to prevent stormwater pollution, facilitate growth and re-development inside urban centers, restore and protect sensitive watersheds, habitats, and preserve working farm and forest lands.
