  • The PWR – LIO Executive Committee is moving forward on signing Letters of Support for both Snoquera Project and Floodplains by Design grant opportunity requests.

Grants and Funding

  • Pierce County 2022 Watershed Small Grants + Webinar – Pierce County is partnering with watershed councils, local nonprofits and agencies to fund a small grants program supporting community projects that improve habitat and water quality across the county.

The 2022 cycle will award up to $70,000 total to projects in four watersheds: Key Peninsula-Gig Harbor-Islands, Chambers-Clover Creek, Puyallup-White River, and Nisqually. Individual grants are funded up to $2,500.

Grant applications are due by April 7, 2022. Prospective applicants are invited to a virtual information session on March 2, 2022, at 3 p.m. to learn more about the program. Sign up for the presentation, download grant applications and review watershed boundaries at www.piercecountywa.gov/sgp.

  • Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) Grants + Webinar – The Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is kicking off its application cycle with a Webinar on February 17 from 9-10 a.m. followed by Q&A breakout sessions with grant managers from 10-10:30 a.m. You won’t want to miss it if you are thinking of applying for a grant for your outdoor recreation or habitat conservation project! The Webinar will include information about the grants offered, eligibility requirements, deadlines, program changes for 2022, and how to apply for a grant. The focus will be on the following grant programs with a May 3, 2022, due date:

 

Watershed News

  • Pierce Conservation District hired new Executive Director – Pierce Conservation District (PCD) has hired its first-ever female Executive Director, Dana Coggon. Coggon, a Tacoma resident, stepped into her new position on January 17th. For the last fifteen years, Coggon has been the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Coordinator and has an exceptional leadership record. She also has a strong science background with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in agriculture, weed science, and pest management.

  • 2022 WA Botanical Symposium – University of Washington Botanic Gardens and the University of Washington Herbarium, Burke Museum are hosting the 2022 Washington Botanical Symposium virtually on Wednesday, March 2 from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm.   • Feb/March edition of the WATERWAY a Puyallup River Watershed Council newsletter – This issue features a spotlight on board member Allan Warren, updates from the Board of Directors and the Puyallup White River Local Integrating Organization, an announcement for the 2022 watersheds small grants cycle, and links to several upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.   • Sumner flood safety project on White River – a recent grant from PSP’s Puget Sound Acquisition and Restoration program went through to the City of Sumner to restore 170 acres of river habitat on White River. (Read more here)

  • Program Coordinator – Mason Conservation District

MCD is looking to hire a program coordinator who will be tasked with coordinating marine shoreline community engagement efforts in watersheds throughout Mason County.

  • Program Manager – Mason Conservation District

MCD is looking to hire a program manager who will be responsible for efficient management and execution of aquatic restoration projects, supervision of a year-round Restoration Field Crew and support achievement of District priorities.

  • Seasonal Restoration Technician – Ecostudies Institute

The Restoration Technician will work with a team in the maintenance and restoration of prairie and forest habitats in the South Salish Sea region of Washington, with a focus on Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Technician positions are expected to be involved in supporting a number of restoration projects. Estimated employment timeframe is estimated to start March 15 and is expected to go until at least Sep. 30th.
